Amazon Go- The Potential Future of E-Commerce

On 6th of December 2016, Amazon rolled out a new video and article about the Future of Shopping and Stores, they have successfully managed to combine different technologies like Sensor Fusion, Computer Vision and, Deep Learning algorithms to present to you the Future.

To say it in real simple words, all you need to do is download the free application Amazon Go and then enter the store, pick up anything you want and just walk out! No lines, no checkouts, no scanning, and no waiting. They have kept it that simple. You can also put it back if you don’t want it, they won’t charge you twice.

Every time you pick up a product, it will be added to your virtual cart and if you put it back, it will not be counted in your virtual cart. Once you have grabbed all the things you need, just walk out of the store and you will get a virtual receipt or bill of the items you have purchased. So, they have updated this whole shopping experience and are here with the most advanced technology that can change the face of the Shopping Industry.

They have already opened up a store in Seattle but it is only open for the Amazon Employees only. The address is 2131 7th Ave, Seattle, WA, on the corner of 7th Avenue and Blanchard Street. But just like all the other concepts, it is right now in beta stage and soon to be available to general people in early 2017. But there are lots of ifs and buts that are not clear yet, they are mentioned below but before that, just watch the Video of Amazon Go:

  • What about the payment?
  • How they will restrict the person from entering the store if they don’t have the Application
  • What if two people pick up same product at the same time, on whose account will it credit? Can the technology avoid the confusion?
  • Is it really helpful for E-Commerce, as the current concept is tied up with Food and edible products only
  • If a person wishes to treat others at the store, how will Amazon Go recognize who is with the person and who is not, if all of them roams around in the store and pick up other things, what happens then?

There are a hell lot of such questions, but it seems awesome and if they can successfully implement it, they will become a legend and this revolution will be a big break in the field of Technology and AI. Also, comment down all the questions that popped up in your mind.
